Hataraku Maou-sama! Light Novel Volume 17 (はたらく魔王さま！17) is the 17th book of the Hataraku Maou-sama! Light Novel series.
Summary[]
The Demon King failed in the permanent employee hiring exam, and feeling frustrated about it, he worked even harder than before, showing the ability of a god-level employee. However, losing his goal which he had been working towards since he drifted from Ente Isla to Japan, he appeared and felt downhearted.
In addition, Camio, who got attacked and remained in his cute chick appearance, as well as the location of the last piece of the "Ancient Demon King's Legacy", the “Astral Gem", the problems which he needed to solve kept piling up.
Amongst that, someone had sighted the existance of someone in Yoyogi who may hold the key to Camio's assault . Amane and the Demon King, who went to the scene, encountered a crocodile-like demon. The 6 tatami Room 201 of Villa Rosa Sasazuka, which needed care and was something they had taken a lot of effort to preserve, whether it was work or private matters, the Demon King's heart could not get a break at all...
As for MgRonalds, as Shop Manager Kisaki received a transfer order, with Emi and Chiho taking the lead, all the employees felt shaken. Kisaki met the Demon King to discuss the future, Emi and Chiho sensed that the Demon King no longer had any reasons to stay in Japan and started to feel uneasy. Short Story: The Devil’s Boss Rediscovers Her Inexperience[]
Ms. Kisaki and Sarue discuss the pizza shop which is under construction near their restaurants.

Maou is turned down by MgRonald in his application for a management position.
Chapter 1: The Devil King Goes Out to Dinner With His Boss[]
Ms. Kisaki tells Maou that she is leaving the MgRonald restaurant to take a marketing role at company headquarters.
Camio arrives at Villa Rosa Sasazuka, pursued by Kinanna, a lizard-like demon who confronted him while Camio was searching the demon realm for the Astral Gem. Maou and Amane face-off against Kinanna at a nearby park. When they overcome the lizard, it shrinks, and they bring it back to the apartment.
Chapter 2: The Hero Reveals Deep Anxieties About the Future[]
Emi and Chiho are concerned that Maou will leave Earth and resume his role at the head of The Demon Army.
Kinanna escapes his little cage and trashes the apartment. Maou and Camio realize that the Astral Gem is embedded in Kinanna's body.
Chapter 3: The Devil King Makes a Major Decision[]
Ms. Kisaki confides in Maou and Sarue that in a few years she intends to open her own restaurant, and intends to call on them to help run it.
On White Day, Maou gives gifts of chocolate to Rika, Chiho, and Emi, who treated him to the same on Valentine’s Day. He also explains that he intends to go on living in Japan. He doesn't actually know Emi gave him chocolate, and is thanking her for helping Alas Ramus to make him chocolate.
Chapter 4: The Devil King and the Hero Storm the Demon Realms[]
Maou and Emi accompany Kinanna to the demon realm to investigate the place where Camio found Kinanna. They come upon an ancient laboratory complex. They are confronted by the astronaut who intervened after the battle at Heavensky in Volume 10. Maou and Emi are swiftly rendered into unconsciousness, but Acieth fights with the astronaut and chases it away.
Extra Chapter: The Devil King Screws Up Buying a Tie[]
Maou demonstrates his lack of fashion sense.
